Another unique service that Hi-Tech offers is what they
call a header plate rebuild. This is done when the radiator core is in perfect
condition but the solder that joins and seals the main base of the header plate
to the tubes and fin section starts cracking causing coolant loss. This is caused
by vibration, rigid roads, twist and torque of and engine as well as worn or hardened
rubbers mounted to the chassis, also the age of the core causing the solder to
loose its bond also helped by coolant getting into the solder and breaking down
the zinc and solder combination causing the solder to crack around the subs and
the header plate. The way that we fix this problem is by removing all parts like
such as the top and bottoms tanks along with the sidebands. We heat up the main
header plate and remove it from the tubes as well as the sub header plates that
gives the main plate more strength, once all parts where removed they are then
acid dipped and sandblasted. The tubes are also brushed and solder tinned ready
to put the clean header plates and subs back on, we then use a gas and air torch
to rerun brand new solder to rejoin the main plate to the tubes creating a perfect
water tight bond, and saving the customer at least 40% off the price of a new
core.
The other standard service that we do on most truck radiators is what
they call a double end cleanout which consists of new gaskets both top and bottom,
new nuts and bolts and an internal clean through the tubes and an external gernie
clean through the fin.
The standard process is as follows:-
-External
high pressure clean radiator.
-20psi test on radiator submerged in water in
a test tub to show any leaks.
-Remove top and bottom tanks with sidebands.
-Rod out tubes internally on radiator / high pressure gernie through tubes inspecting
-and dislodging any blockage.
-Remove all gasket material , prep and clean
steel work.
-Supply and fit new cork gasket seals.
-Supply and fit new
high tensile zinc grade nuts and bolts.
-Reassemble all steel work back onto
core.
-Retention all nuts and bolts.
-20psi test once all together and
straighten fins.
-Paint radiator in black paint used on radiators.
Hi-Tech
Radiators can also service engine, diff and gearbox oil coolers and aftercoolers
by using the latest edition to our workshop with a ultrasonic cleaner. This machine
is set up with a 2 stage filter process that can clean inside and outside of any
heat exchanger dislodging any foreign particles and cleans any contaminates formed
inside the heat exchanger.
